Self-teaching through Travel
1956

Born in Chiayi, Taiwan.

1973

Began studying wood carving, learned from nature to train observation skills and develop realistic painting techniques, and laid a foundation for three-dimensional sketching.

Visited the National Palace Museum in Taipei for the first time. Deeply impressed by the intricate carvings of a national treasure named Boat of the Olive Seed, especially the realistic representation of figures in a small olive pit, which became the artist's lifelong artistic pursuit. Determined that one day his work would also be collected by the NPM.
1974

Observed a few ants carrying a large gecko egg which created a stark contrast in size with the ants, particularly as they moved the egg up a 90-degree slope. Stunned by the scene, the artist was motivated to make ant-theme carvings later. As a result, the artist began studying ant ecology and reading biology books.

1976

Enlisted in the military and served in the artist's sought-after Marine Corps. Although this was often viewed as a challenging path by other recruits, the artist embraced it and thought "If others have done it, I won't; if others want to do it but can't, then I will."

1977

Started experimenting with wood carving of ants and established realistic carving techniques through such exploration. This served as solid foundation for the artist's fine wood carvings later.

Set a plan to launch an artistic career after military service, began self-study in fine art, and read art-related books.

1978

During military service, through continuous exploration, the artist completed his first vividly portrayed wood-carved ant. Encouraged by the success of his experimental work, the artist decided to devote his life to art in pursuit of truth through creation.

1979

Transferred to the Zuoying Naval Base in Kaohsiung as an independent squad leader. This allowed him to study woodcarving and create art during free time.
